I promise my next article will be on a more positive note but I wanted to get this warning out as it is a very realistic scam and I don't want any of you to fall foul of it.
What to look out for:
Ofgem has issued a warning that cyber criminals are sending realistic-looking but fake emails telling recipients that they are eligible to apply for an energy rebate and must do so by clidking on a button that directs them to a fake Ofgem-branded website, where they are asked to enter personal details to set up a direct debit for receiving the rebate.
Remember: you can't claim the energy bill discount (or the council tax rebate) from Ofgem.
No-one legitimate will contact you to ask for financial or personal details in order to arrange your energy bill rebate.
